‘Park In The Sperrins’ is a photography book detailing the fascinating landscape and hidden gems of Park and its surrounding area in the Sperrins. A book of few words, it contains pictures compiled over a 20-year period which take on us a seasonal journey through Park.

Here, author Patrick McCloskey explains how this beautiful photographic record came about…

I embarked on this photographic journey 18 years ago in an attempt to celebrate the beauty of the Sperrins throughout the seasons, albeit in a very specific location around Park Village.

For those of you who are familiar with the village, nestling at the foot of The Sawel and Dart Mountains, you can testify to the gentle contours, valleys and folds that encompass the village and surrounding townlands.

This was my childhood playground and where my friend and I explored and revelled in the challenges posed by the river, trees, hills and valleys.

In this book I have re-visited many of these places where I played and attempted to capture their allure throughout the seasonal moods and variations.

None of the images have been enhanced in anyway via photographic software as I want them to represent an accurate reflection of what I saw with the range of light tones evidenced in this location across the seasons.

I have no doubt that if you meander along the Dart road to Cranagh at any time of the year, you will be uplifted by the serenity and beauty of a landscape unfolding in front of you. For those of you who are not familiar with the area, it is certainly worth paying a visit to and as you make your way through the hills and valleys let all your thoughts and worries ease away into the ether on the wings of the soaring skylarks.

Park In The Sperrins can be purchased at the Vivo Supermarket in Park Village, Little Acorns Bookstore in Derry/Londonderry and No Alibis Bookstore in Belfast.

It can also be purchased by sending a direct message order request to Park In The Sperrins on Instagram with payment via PayPal.

The book costs £20 and delivery throughout Ireland and UK is free.
