Looking for somewhere to stay that’s convenient to the Mourne Mountains? Why not try Millers Close Holiday Cottages!

So tell us, what is Millers Close and where exactly is it?

Millers Close Holiday cottages are a small cluster of self-catering holiday cottages nestled at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. We’re just at the edge of Tollymore Forest Park, in Co.Down, North of Ireland.

And how did it come about?

Millers Close got its name after an old flax mill that employed many local people back in the 18th Century.

The mill sat at the edge of the Shimna river, which is around 100 yards from the cottages. The cottages are replacement dwellings replacing an old country farmhouse. The property has belonged to the Morgan family for over 200 hundred years

Each individual cottage was christened after children that grew up on the property back in the 40’s and 50s: Maggie’s Cottage (2 bedroom), Pat’s Cottage (2 bedroom) and Jimmy’s Cottage (3 bedroom).

What does Millers Close offer for those looking to explore Northern Ireland?

We offer one of the most amazing accommodations while staying in the Mourne area, with the most breath-taking views while you relax in a cosy, clean cottage in front of the warm fire.

And what local attractions are nearby?

The Mourne Mountains are right on our doorstep along with Tollymore Forest Park, filming locations for Game of Thrones. We’re also five miles away from Castlewellan Forest Park and five miles from the bustling seaside town of Newcastle. Other nearby attractions include the Silent Valley, Fairy Glen in Rostrevor, and Slieve Gullion. Newry city is a 30-minute drive from us, and Belfast is just 60 minutes from the cottages.

Are the cottages pet-friendly? What do they offer for children/families?

Yes, we welcome your furry family members. Onsite for children we have a play area, but your back garden is Tollymore Forest Park which is a child’s paradise.

What amenities are provided in the cottages?

Each cottage is fully equipped with all modern cons for self-catering, and bed and breakfast service is also available if required. We also have a treatment therapist if your guests would like to indulge in holistic treatments. This service can be pre-booked via our website.

What’s your absolute favourite thing about Millers Close?

It has to be our location – it’s out of this world! The views are amazing all year round. Also, the style of our cottage is very unique. They were designed in a way that by first look appear like old-style traditional cottages that blend in with the surrounding area, but once you step inside you experience the modern, cosy, comfortable surroundings, which make for a very relaxing stay.
