How did it come about? What’s the story behind it?

The Irish-American Mahoney family from Augher, Co. Tyrone purchased the property in 2016 and completed an extensive refurbishment, with their grand re-opening on St Patrick’s Day in 2017. The Mellon Country Inn has been a mainstay on the A5 main road between Omagh and Derry/Londonderry for decades, beginning its life originally as Paddy Brown’s Bar. It’s now an 18-room hotel with Conferencing facilities, a Ballroom, and a Bar and Restaurant on site.

What does it offer for those exploring Northern Ireland?

Our biggest asset is our location – we are central to Donegal, Tyrone, Derry/Londonderry and Fermanagh. Perfect for travellers and daytrippers alike!

We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and hospitality.

What local attractions are nearby?

Ulster American Folk Park (5 minutes away); Strule Arts Centre in Omagh; Harry Avery’s Castle in Newtownstewart; Bessie Bell and Mary Gray mountains nearby – lots of walking trails; Gortin Glens Forest Park with its play park, deer and ducks, 5 mile scenic drive, and mountain biking trail.

Is it pet-friendly?

Dogs are welcome for a drink at the Bar, but not to stay overnight.

What amenities does it provide?

Spacious and comfortable rooms with views of the Sperrin Mountains and Strule River, free parking, onsite Bar and Restaurant.
