What’s the story behind Belmore Court?

In 1989, Raymond bought the current premises and adapted Wickham Drive to create Northern Ireland’s first motel with 30 bedrooms, which began trading in 1991.

The business is part of Blakely McCartney Ltd, a company that was actually incorporated much earlier – in 1954 – by Blakely McCartney, the grandfather of the current Managing Director.

Terry McCartney, Raymond’s son, took over the business in 1995 and has managed the property ever since, making this a true family-run third-generation business. Under Terry’s leadership, the motel saw significant expansion in 2008-2009, with additional bedrooms added to bring the total to 60, along with the acquisition of the Lodge at Lough Erne. This expansion represented an investment of more than £2 million.

Today, Belmore Court & Motel consists of 60 bedrooms and the Lodge at Lough Erne. It’s registered as a 4-star Guest Accommodation by Tourism Northern Ireland and the AA, making it Northern Ireland’s only 4-star motel.
