We are Rockhouse NI, a small dairy farm run by the Hamilton family near Saintfield, Co. Down.

We pasteurise and sell our own whole milk on-site through a self-service vending machine in our shop, The Old Byre. Our concerns about the environment have played a key role in how we run our business. One is the amount of plastic used in the food industry, which we have addressed by providing attractive glass bottles to buy as an alternative. These can be washed and refilled on the next visit, helping to eliminate the single use plastic option. Customers are also welcome to bring their own bottles, should they wish to do so.

Consumers are also rightly concerned about the distance their food has travelled, our milk is pasteurised across the yard, meaning a zero-carbon footprint in transportation. We aim to look after our small Friesian herd to the highest welfare standards, allowing the girls to graze outside through spring, summer, and autumn months if the climate permits. The lush County Down grass helps create the creamy, nutritious milk our customers enjoy.

Our pasteurizing process allows our milk to retain its flavour and goodness. Unlike homogenised shop-bought milk, the cream rises to the top. In addition, we stock our homebred grass-fed beef along with ice cream made from our own milk and cream and a range of milkshake syrups. Free range eggs from Springmount Farm, Ballygowan and a selection of jams and chutneys made by Cargo House Cooks are available as well as other ethical and sustainable locally produced products.

We are always close by should you have any questions or need a hand. The Old Byre is open Monday to Saturday 7.30am to 7pm. Do drop in, we look forward to seeing you.
