I love trekking the Mournes – my favourite would be Slieve Binnian.
Best time to go
I think the best time would be Springtime.
This trek’s for you if…
I would recommend this trek for any type of hiker. The ascent is pretty strenuous but once you reach the top doing a circular northward over to the Ben Crom reservoir and back down the Annalong valley is straightforward and fairly easy going. Around 7 miles and 4 hours in all.
Why it’s my favourite
I love it because it is bang in the middle of the Mournes and the views are pretty spectacular in all directions. Also, the rock formations called “the Castles” that are on the top are worth seeing.
Some care is needed if descending the North side into the valley
Many thanks, James!
